It’s a doozy…

In 2011, the Australian Perth Mint cast the world’s largest and most expensive gold bullion coin ever, weighing in at one metric tonne. That’s 35,274 troy ounces!

Inspired by the popular Australian kangaroo gold coin series, The Perth Mint struck this record-breaking piece of change that measures nearly a yard wide and five inches thick in .9999 fine gold.

The giant coin is one of the Perth Mint’s most extraordinary accomplishments in its 112-year history. At the unveiling of the coin, Ed Harbuz, CEO of The Perth Mint, commented, “To cast and handcraft a coin of this size and weight was an incredible challenge, one which few other mints would not even consider.”

Check out how this beast was made in this short video produced by The Perth Mint here.
